The Prefect of Seine-et-Marne reported the incident on his Twitter account: an industrial incident occurred on Wednesday morning at 9.10 am at the Corning SAS site (research laboratory) in Samois-sur-Seine (77), south of Melun.
150 people were evacuated. The incident left 14 people injured, two of them seriously. One victim was airlifted to Percy Hospital in Clamart (92).
The site is not classified under SEVESO.
A chemical reaction caused a spill of chemicals; the fumes were contained within the unit.
Emergency services are at the scene. The prefecture is asking people to stay within the safety perimeter.
A criminal investigation has been launched by the Fontainebleau Public Prosecutor’s Office in coordination with the Labour Inspectorate and the Regional and Interdepartmental Directorate for Energy and the Environment.
