A fire has already destroyed more than 300 hectares of vegetation in Conques, in the Aude department. One of the fire brigade’s lorries was trapped by the flames. The crew were forced to abandon the vehicle.
Several hundred firefighters have been on the scene since 4 pm on Wednesday. Ten water-bombing aircraft have been deployed and several homes have been evacuated.
