Paris: one dead and several injured in a fire at a care home

At around 9.20 pm on Sunday evening, a fire broke out at a care home on Rue de la Source in Paris’s 11th arrondissement (75).

156 firefighters from around 20 fire stations were mobilised; they were supported by accredited civil protection organisations.

The Paris fire brigade carried out several rescues.

According to an initial report from the Paris Fire Brigade spokesperson: A 100-year-old man has died, two women are in critical condition and four people are in serious condition (including a firefighter).

According to the borough mayor, the fire is believed to have been caused by a cigarette that had not been properly extinguished.
