A 27-year-old man stole a fire engine whilst it was parked in the centre of Annecy, in Haute-Savoie, whilst the crew were attending a rescue call.
After being alerted, officers from the National Gendarmerie quickly located the suspect and arrested him. At the time of his arrest, he was speaking incoherently. He had to be admitted to hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
The person who is actively being sought
Following his assessment, the 27-year-old man was admitted to a psychiatric ward, from which he managed to escape. He is currently the subject of an active search. A complaint has been lodged by the departmental fire and rescue service regarding the theft of their ambulance.
