Two hundred firefighters are believed to have died from illnesses linked to the 11 September attacks, according to a charity that helps 11 September first responders with medical needs not covered by insurance.
The Ray Pfeifer Foundation confirmed on Wednesday onTwitter that two more New York City firefighters had died as a result of “9/11-related illness”, marking the 199th and 200th FDNY deaths linked to the World Trade Centre attacks. Retired FDNY Captain Dennis Gilhooly of Engine Company 67 and retired firefighter Brian Casse of Engine Company 294 have died, the foundation announced.
In March 2018, the Greater New York Uniformed Firefighters Association reported that more than 170 firefighters had died as a result of illnesses linked to the World Trade Centre attacks, according to CBS New York . More than 50,000 people have conditions linked to their exposure to toxins released following the collapse of the towers.
