On 1 December last year, a firefighter went missing in the Civil Protection helicopter crash near Marseille, which claimed three lives. A fundraising campaign was subsequently launched by the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Firefighters’ Union and the local associations of the Marignane and Martigues rescue centres. This fund was set up to support the family of Norbert Savornin and had reached 31,000 euros on the online platform Leetchi.

But according to the France 3 website, hackers gained access to the login details for this online fundraising page and stole more than 30,000 euros. A complaint has been lodged by the SDIS 13 Departmental Union, and an investigation has been launched by the gendarmerie.

For their part, the fire brigade have asked the Leetchi platform to reimburse the stolen amount. Our colleagues state that it is still possible to make donations, but these must now be sent by post to the headquarters of the SDIS13 Departmental Union, 4 Place Jean Jaurès, Berre l’Etang.
