A year after the fire at the Les Pieux fire station in the Manche department (Normandy), a volunteer firefighter has been placed under investigation. On 4 March this year, the entire administrative wing was destroyed.
According to the public prosecutor, the man is alleged to have stolen the takings from the calendars, amounting to several tens of thousands of euros, before setting fire to the premises to destroy all the evidence.
All the firefighters interviewed
According to our colleagues in the local press, all staff -professionals and volunteers- were questioned. One of them was placed under formal investigation for "damage caused by dangerous means". He is a volunteer firefighter. He should also be prosecuted for theft.
The man has been placed under judicial supervision. The investigation is ongoing and will seek to establish whether or not he had any accomplices.
