Firefighters in the Pyrénées-Orientales have been equipped with new gear to help them deal with assaults. These are body-worn cameras, similar to those already used by the police.
So far, ten cameras have been delivered. They are being used at three fire stations in the department, including Perpignan North, Perpignan South and Rivesaltes. These are fire stations that are potentially affected by this rise in violence.
In 2019, according to the management of SDIS 66, 23 complaints were lodged by firefighters, 17 of which were directly related to physical assaults.
