Three volunteer firefighters from Lyon had asked the administrative court to recognise their status as "workers", on 20 November. The court considered the case last Friday and decided to dismiss all the applications made.
"It can no longer be something you do on top of your main job. These days, there are requests on a daily basis.", explained to our colleagues at Lyon Mag in November, Rémy Chabbouh, departmental representative of the SUD trade union.
"This is a major issue, as more than 200,000 volunteer firefighters in our country are not covered by provisions to protect their health and safety", stated the SUD trade union, which did not rule out taking the case to the highest European level should the Lyon administrative court reject it. The status of volunteer firefighters is therefore not a dead issue.
