A forest fire broke out on Saturday evening on the hills above the village of Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey, near Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes.

It was a tough battle for the SDIS 06 firefighters during the night from Saturday to Sunday, as the fire spread through a wooded area "on the rise" and "hard to reach". No homes were affected.

On Sunday morning, the authorities reported that 50 hectares had been affected. "Daylight will enable us to deploy the water-bombing helicopter to improve the effectiveness of the operation, gain a better understanding of the terrain and make our efforts more effective.", the SDIS 06 said early on Sunday morning.
