Opoul-Périllos: 8 hectares of garrigue destroyed, 120 firefighters deployed

A bush fire broke out on Wednesday in the early afternoon in the commune of Opoul-Périllos, in the Pyrénées-Orientales department.

No fewer than 120 firefighters from SDIS 66 were on the scene at the height of the operation. According to the report issued by the authorities, no fewer than eight hectares of scrubland were destroyed on military land. When the firefighters arrived, the fire front was 150 metres wide.

Several emergency response teams, as well as a team specialising in tactical firefighting, were dispatched to the scene. The Civil Protection helicopter was also called in to assist –The Dragon 66- was necessary for identification purposes.
