According to Emergency Information, a tanker truck used to fight forest fires overturned on Tuesday afternoon after veering off the road. The incident took place in the commune of Houeilles, west of Agen, in Lot-et-Garonne (47).
Four firefighters, who had been sent out on a reconnaissance mission following reports of ‘suspicious smoke’, were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. The four firefighters, who are part of the SDIS 47 service, were injured, one of them seriously. A major emergency response operation was deployed at the scene, including a helicopter and a medical team from SAMU 47.
The exact circumstances of the accident remain unknown. An investigation has been launched by officers of the National Gendarmerie.
