According to our colleagues at Ouest-France with theAFP, the two wildfires that have been raging since Tuesday in the Gironde have burnt some 3,700 hectares, including more than 2,000 in the commune of Landiras, near Bordeaux, where the situation has “stabilised, even though the fire has not yet been brought under control”, the prefecture announced on Thursday.
In this area, situated some 40 kilometres south of Bordeaux, 2,100 hectares of pine forest have gone up in smoke and 1,600 hectares have been burnt in the La Teste-de-Buch forest, in the Arcachon basin, very close to the famous Dune du Pilat, which has been exceptionally closed to the public.
In La Teste, the situation remains “uncertain due to access difficulties”, and 60 people have been evacuated from a housing estate in Cazaux, a village within this sprawling municipality, the prefecture said.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, some 6,000 people were evacuated from campsites in the La Teste area, which Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin visited late on Tuesday afternoon.
