Fires in Gironde: one fire engine burnt out, another overturned and four firefighters injured

"Four firefighters" were slightly injured whilst fighting the fires ravaging the Gironde, announced Marc Vermeulen, departmental director of SDIS 33, during a press briefing on Saturday.

"As I speak, four firefighters have sustained minor injuries, one fire engine has burnt out and another has overturned", he said.

110 fires since the start of the week

"We are facing two exceptionally large fires", said Marc Vermeulen, departmental director of SDIS 33, during a press briefing regarding the fires raging in Gironde.

"Since these two fires broke out, 110 separate fires have been recorded in the same department, amounting to 20 to 25 a day", he added.

For the time being, "no civilian casualties" There were no casualties, and “just over 13,500 people” were evacuated. Some 3,000 buildings were also protected.
