Firefighters in Gironde, supported by reinforcements from neighbouring departments and across the country, have been battling two fires since Tuesday 12 July, which have so far burnt nearly 14,300 hectares of forest in Gironde. Despite the significant ground and aerial resources deployed, the situation remains unstable and the fire spread overnight; the worst is feared for today, Monday.
According to our forest fire alert map, two areas are at extreme risk – these are the Gironde and the Landes – 20 are at ‘very severe’ risk, 52 at ‘severe’ risk and 31 at ‘moderate’ risk. Click here to view the daily risk map.
