Two fires have been burning since 5.45 pm in La Roche Chalais, in the hamlet of Lavautour, and a second in the commune of Eygurande in the Dordogne-Périgord department. The fire brigade has been alerted.
Civil protection air assets are being sent as reinforcements: 2 Canadairs, 1 Dash-8 and 1 water-bombing helicopter.
FOLLOW-UP:
07.30: The fire at La-Roche-Chalais, estimated at 100 hectares, has reportedly been brought under control.
There are still 80 firefighters on site to finish bringing the situation under control and ensure the area is completely flooded.
00:00: No fewer than 200 firefighters were on the scene, having travelled from the department as well as from Corrèze, Lot-et-Garonne, Charente-Maritime and Charente.
The size of the fire in the commune of Eygurande-et-Gardedeuil has been put at 10 hectares.
9.30 pm: The fires spread across around 40 hectares of forest in La Double.
6.00 pm: Our team has received a second report of a second fire in the neighbouring town of Eygurande.
5.45 pm: Report of a fire breaking out in the town of La Roche Chalais.
