Montpellier is set to have a new fire station by 2025, which will bolster efforts to combat forest and wildland fires in the Hérault department.

This third fire station, based in Montpellier, will provide better coverage of the area, which is particularly at risk of fire due to its proximity to the garrigue and the surrounding woodlands.

The site chosen for the construction of the fire station is located to the south of the town, near the Saint-Martin and Près d’Arènes neighbourhoods. At present, the number of professional firefighters to be stationed at this future fire station has not yet been determined, the website states Metro - Actu.fr.

The new fire station will be equipped with the latest fire-fighting technology, including a 100 per cent electric fire engine from Rosenbauer. It will also help to increase the number of firefighters in the region, which is essential for ensuring a rapid and effective response in the event of an emergency.

This announcement is excellent news for the residents of Montpellier and the surrounding areas, who will now benefit from improved safety and an additional fire station to tackle forest and wildland fires.
