Update at 8.30 pm
At 8.30 pm, the fire was still burning, contained on its left flank and in the process of being brought under control on its right flank.
Aerial resources were requested as soon as the fire broke out; it was spreading very rapidly at the outset, largely due to unfavourable wind conditions, and was threatening 80 hectares of forest.
In light of this situation, aerial support has been requested; a water-bombing helicopter from Bordeaux is expected to arrive in the area within the next hour.
In total, around a hundred firefighters remain deployed to tackle this fire, with three forest fire response teams (GIF) from the SDIS 29, reinforced by a GIF from Morbihan.
The combined efforts of the firefighters on the ground and the air support should enable the situation to be brought under control within the next few hours.
Two firefighters suffered from heatstroke and were treated immediately by the medical team.
Traffic is still at a standstill on the road between Croas Janus and Toul Ar C’haz.
All government departments remain on standby at the departmental operations centre (COD), which has been operational at the prefecture since 5.30 pm.
The Prefect of Finistère is urging the public to avoid the area and to comply with the restrictions put in place so as not to hinder the work of the emergency services.
Update at 7.00 pm
On Wednesday 7 June, shortly before 5 pm, a fire broke out in Saint-Goazec at a place known as Kaliforn. By 7 pm, less than 5 hectares had been burnt. No homes are under threat.
Traffic has been halted on the road between Croas Janus and Toul Ar C’haz.
The departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS 29) has deployed three forest fire response teams (GIFF); these are currently being reinforced by a GIFF from Morbihan. Two further GIFFs are on their way in case a relief team is required.
In total, around a hundred firefighters are involved in tackling this fire.
