Since midday on Monday, the Pyrénées-Orientales department has been under a yellow heatwave alert due to the high temperatures recorded since last weekend. This yellow alert will remain in place until at least midnight on Wednesday, and residents are urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines.

In addition to this, the department has two areas (Les Corbières and the Roussillon plain) at exceptional risk of forest fires, whilst two other areas (Les Aspres and Les Albères) are at high risk. The departmental prefecture is therefore calling on residents to be extra vigilant and to comply with fire prevention regulations. Activities likely to cause fires must be avoided.

Local authorities also remind the public of the importance of reporting any outbreak of fire immediately by calling 18 or 112, and of following the instructions of the fire service and local authorities in the event of a fire.
