The Chinese disaster response authorities are currently dealing with several forest fires in China. In the Guizhou provinces and Yunnan, as well as in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. These fires, fuelled by dry weather conditions and human negligence, pose a significant risk to the affected areas.
In Leye County, Guangxi, a fire broke out on Wednesday morning, believed to have been caused by a short circuit exacerbated by strong winds. Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the efforts of more than 1,000 people. There were no casualties. Meanwhile, Guizhou has seen several fires, mainly caused by careless behaviour, such as unextinguished cigarette ends and the illegal use of fire for ancestral worship. These incidents have led to those responsible being detained by the local authorities.
Forest fire warnings and precautions
By contrast, the situation in the Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was particularly tragic, with the loss of two firefighters whilst battling a fire that had spread rapidly.
The Ministry and the National Forest Fire Prevention Command have issued a warning. This concerns the high risk of fire in several regions until Sunday. This is due to the prolonged drought, which is making vegetation particularly vulnerable. This alarming situation highlights the need for increased vigilance and a sustained commitment to forest fire prevention and control efforts.
