Twenty trainees of the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) took part in a specialist training against forest fires. Levels 1 and 2 (FDF 1 and FDF 2), at the Coursan fire station. These firefighters, from various stations including Narbonne, Bize, Leucate, Mouthoumet and, of course, Coursan, were under the command of Laurent Santo. Aims and programme of the forest fire prevention training course
The main aim of these training courses was to train new recruits (FDF 1) and to enhance the knowledge of corporals and non-commissioned officers (FDF 2) to improve their ability to fight forest fires. The training consisted of theoretical sessions at the barracks It also included practical field exercises. Participants learnt to master various manoeuvres, to use specialist forest fire equipment and, for the FDF 2 group, to train as team leaders, responsible for directing their teams in emergency situations.
