Since 2023, Greece has been facing a major environmental crisis. Devastating wildfires have destroyed forests in full. In response, Papastratos, a subsidiary of Philip Morris, is launching an ambitious reforestation programme. Their aim is to restore 70,000 trees in the affected areas, marking an unprecedented effort to combat the environmental impact.
This programme goes beyond simply planting trees. It embodies a proactive fight against climate change, in partnership with the Greek authorities and environmental experts. The project is getting underway on Mount Penteli, where 35,000 trees have already been planted despite the challenges posed by the weather. The aim is to plant twice that number. Those that did not survive the 2023 heatwave have been replaced, underlining the firm commitment to this environmental goal.

The second phase of the project, which began in March 2024, saw the active participation of 150 volunteers from Papastratos and the support of the Minister for the Environment, Theodoros Skylakakis. This collaboration between the private sector, the government and citizens illustrates the synergy required to effectively tackle the consequences of global warming.
The positive impact of this initiative lies not only in reforestation but also in its contribution to biodiversity and the fight against environmental degradation, providing a model for restoration and sustainability.
