Wildfire in Monthermé : the fire is extinguished

Since late morning this Saturday, August 15, the Ardennes fire and rescue services have been responding to a forest fire in the town of Monthermé (Charleville-Mézières district).

As of now, 110 hectares have been burned.

Overnight, the fire flared up again at times—sometimes violently—but the blazes were brought under control.

Firefighters are focusing their efforts on the front right and front left sectors and in the heart of the forest.

The arrival last night of a convoy of fifteen fire trucks from the eastern region provided support and relief to the firefighters who had been on the scene since this morning.

There are 132 firefighters on the scene.

The need for aerial support is being assessed in light of the national situation.

The presence of heavy smoke is related to this incident. This smoke is not toxic. Residents are advised to keep their windows closed.

No injuries have been reported, and there has been no property damage.

The situation remains under control.

Firefighters will remain on the scene for several days to contain the fire and then extinguish it.

Feu éteint à Monthermé (Ardennes). Le feu, parti samedi 15 août en fin de matinée, a brûlé 110 hectares avant d’être éteint. Jusqu’à 70 sapeurs-pompiers et 23 engins étaient mobilisés dès le premier jour, renforcés par un Dash et deux hélicoptères bombardiers d’eau. Des reprises de feu ont retardé la maîtrise de l’incendie, nécessitant encore un hélicoptère et une cinquantaine de pompiers dimanche 16 août.

🔥 SITUATION UPDATE – FIRE STILL ACTIVE 🔥 The fire is still actively spreading and remains difficult to contain. ✈️ Three retardant drops have already been carried out to slow the fire’s spread. 🚒 More than 100 firefighters are currently on the scene. Reinforcements are expected from the Aisne, Marne, Somme, and Meuse departments to bolster the response effort.
