Since Sunday 21 June, a fire has continued to ravage the area around Nant, in the Aveyron, on Tuesday 10 September. Despite the deployment of considerable resources, the fire remains active in an area that is particularly difficult to access.

A situation under close scrutiny
The Prefect of Aveyron, accompanied by the Sub-Prefect of Millau and the Mayor of Nant, visited the site this morning to assess how the situation was developing. The authorities welcomed the unwavering commitment of the teams that have been on duty since Sunday, as well as the invaluable support of the local council and the CUMA (Agricultural Equipment Co-operative).
128 firefighters and aerial resources deployed
To contain the flames, 128 firefighters are currently engaged, supported by air and ground assets. Among the reinforcements deployed are:
A Dash (water-bombing aircraft) and a water-bombing helicopter, which carried out several airdrops;
Forty emergency vehicles;
A specialist team from other departments.

The topography of the area, rugged and difficult to access, makes fire-fighting operations particularly complex. Emergency services must remain extra vigilant to prevent any new fires from breaking out, whilst weather conditions remain a key factor in how the situation develops.

The authorities are emphasising the importance of collective vigilance to prevent any risk of further fires breaking out. Residents and users in the affected areas are asked to follow the safety instructions and to report any fires to the emergency services.
