A fierce fire has destroyed more than 151 homes in the town of Le Porge, in Gironde, over the last few hours. Rescue operations are continuing at full speed, with the support of additional fire crews deployed on the ground to bring the flames under control and secure the area.
The village remains closed to traffic so as not to hinder the work of the emergency services. The local authorities, including the mayor, Martial Zaninetti, have urged residents to avoid the area to ensure everyone’s safety and to facilitate the work of the teams on the ground.
Damaged networks and enhanced monitoring
Part of the water and electricity networks was damaged by the fire, complicating fire-fighting operations. Firefighters are maintaining constant vigilance to prevent the flames from reigniting, whilst a detailed list of the affected homes is currently being drawn up. It will be released on Thursday, once it has been verified.

The mayor and the town council of Le Porge have praised the courage and dedication of the fire brigade, the security forces, volunteers and members of the Municipal Civil Protection Reserve. Their massive mobilisation has made it possible to contain the fire and protect the local population.
