A fire is currently burning in the Luglon area. As of now, it has spread across approximately 1,300 hectares in two separate zones. One area resulted from the initial outbreak, and the other from a fire jump that carried the blaze southeast of the town.
550 firefighters are currently working to prevent the fire from spreading, along with 51 gendarmes. Thanks to the firefighters’ efforts, no homes have been affected so far, but the fire remains intense in the southeastern part of the municipality of Luglon, which borders that of Garein. An Australian Chinook CH-47D water bomber has been in operation since 9:00 a.m. this morning, along with its Bell 412 reconnaissance helicopter. Four Canadair aircraft were deployed in the mid-afternoon over the western part of Luglon. Since late afternoon, the Chinook has been focusing its efforts on the southeastern part of the town.
Rural roads RD 327 and RD 14 have been closed to traffic south and north of the town of Luglon.
550 people have been evacuated by the Landes Gendarmerie Unit from the town of Luglon and the hamlets located between Luglon and Garein. The town of Sabres has opened an assembly point in its community hall as well as at the Landes Verte estate. A medical and psychological emergency response team (CUMP) was also activated this morning in the community hall.
Residents are urged to follow the instructions of local authorities and to stay informed through official channels and the radio station Ici Gascogne.
The departmental operations center (COD) remains active at the prefecture to coordinate the efforts of the various services.
We ask our fellow citizens to avoid the area and to allow emergency and security services unimpeded access.
