How to read the result

• ‘Subject area’ (amber box) : the marker falls within an area covered by the official zoning plan. Brush clearing is compulsory on 50 m around buildings (100 metres, if the area is larger locally) and along access routes. The box shows the date of the prefectural order and a link to the regulations for your department — then move on to the production.
• ‘ On the boundary ’ or ‘ areas within the municipality ’ (dotted box) : there is a designated area within 100 metres of the marker, or somewhere within the municipality in question. Switch to the ‘Aerial photo’ background and place the marker exactly on your building to confirm.
• ‘No mapped areas’ (blue box) : nothing at the location or in the immediate vicinity, even though the department is covered by the database. Please exercise caution : areas smaller than 4 ha are not always included, and local regulations may apply.
• “ Non-integrated department ” : the national database is being expanded department by department. The tool then switches to the indicative list of departments that have historically been subject to this — and your local council remains the point of reference.

Where does the data come from?

The result is not an estimate: each check queries the database BRUSH CLEARING, produced by theIGN based on the prefectures’ zoning classifications — the official national census of areas subject to OLDs, published as open data on data.gouv.fr and displayed on the Géoportail. The areas are delineated in accordance with the prefectural decrees currently in force and, where these are not available, in accordance with the IGN zoning established pursuant to the technical instruction of 8 February 2019 (mountain ranges larger than 4 ha and their surrounding areas of 200 m).

Its limitations, acknowledged: it is a zoning scheme informative. Smaller mountain ranges may be missing; photo-interpretation has its margins of error; and coverage is being extended in line with government decrees (more than 50 departments to be included by summer 2026, from the Mediterranean coast to Brittany). In the event of a discrepancy between the map and the actual terrain, the prefectural order shall prevail.
